Need help on buying a carat scale with accuracy 0.005ct - 0.01ct

Hi,

I am so glad to find this website.  It's so informative!  I've been looking for a carat scale for a long time and because my lack of knowledge, I haven't been able to make a decision.

I'd like to weigh small sapphire that is under 0.05ct per piece so resolution of 0.01ct or 0.005ct is what I'm looking for.  I noticed a big jewerly tool supplier carries this unit "Plantinum PCT50", 50 carat capacity, 0.005ct accuracy, and it weighs carat, grams, ounces and pennyweights.  It's $99.00.  Is this a reputable brand?  Is this a good choice?

I read a post in the forum and My Weigh GemPro 250 was recommended.  However, $166.99 is the lowest price I can find.  It's a bit higher than my budget of $120.00.  If it's really worth the money in the long run, I'll go for it.  Or is there something as good within the same price range?  Please advice.

Thank you very much,

jyky

Hi,  yes we have seen that

Hi,  yes we have seen that same scale that is marketed as the Platinum PCT50 and many other names.  It's a standard Chinese model,  not made by any major company. The particular one you saw is marketed by Sy Kessler Sales in Texas.  The scale is really not good quality and if you want an accurate weight you should avoid it like the plague (sorry to be brutal but it jumps around, the one I have here in front of me is showing weights varying up and down +0.030 ct up and down every 2 seconds as I leave a 5g (25ct) weight on the tray).

The AC adaptor is one of those illegal / improper models that we warn consumers about on our fraud page (see http://digitalscale.com/Fraud.html )

I hope you will buy a more reputable weighing device - you're better off buying nothing then purchasing one of those dangerous scales.

 Good luck and BE SAFE

Hi, I'm so grateful of

Hi,

I'm so grateful of your reply.  I came extremely close buying that terrible unit.  I'm comparing My Weigh GEMPRO250 and Jennings Mack20.  If capacity is not a big issue, which one is a better choice in terms of accuracy and reliability?  Boy, the price is such a big difference.  Please advice.

 Thank you very much,

 jyky
